Bread Baby Forever

What’s goody? What’s going dine? So it’s been a lil minute since y’all have heard from me, as the boy Casey Veggies would say “Life Changes.” But all good changes on this end and I hope the same goes for you as you’re reading this. My goal is to get to y’all more consistently so I’m gonna try and touch base here weekly, but it ain’t gonna be like the previous posts you’ve seen from me. Although I might give some occasional social shout outs that are cracking me up at the moment, these blogs are gonna be more of a peak into my mind, like what’s important to me at the moment or simply whatever randomly pops into my head to share with y’all! So with that being said, let’s jump into some random shit right now!

I don’t really listen to as much music as I used to but I came across this old Wale song yesterday and that shit was hittin! Wale has always been one of my favorites from his insight, to word play, my nigga is an urban poet. I don’t use the word urban too often because I feel like it’s just a roundabout way to call someone/something ghetto, but I couldn’t think of another word to describe him at the moment so we’ll stick with that for the time being. Anyways, this particular song is called Georgetown Press. As a huge sports fan I also love how Wale incorporates sports bars in his music (btw he’s unparalleled at that, like nobody is fuckin with him when it comes to that) and this is alot of what you get in this song, but the shit is just so motivational you feel me? And idk it’s crazy because in the song he’s highlighting some of the struggles that black people face in the hood, but it still feels so motivational to me! OH WAIT THAT’S WHAT IT IS! He’s like a HOOD POET! Idk Wale personally, but I don’t necessarily feel like he’s a “hood” dude, but I do feel like he’s a Hood Poet…like he’s hood adjacent y’know? Anyways there’s so many bars that stand out in this song that I feel either puts things into perspective, make you wanna go get it, or are just dope af in general.

“Cannot stress through God’s blessings we made it out, for the have nots, to have a knot, to have knots”

I mean cmon bruh…just know, if you’re going through it right now, lean on God and he’s gonna carry you through it! For he’s taken the have nots (people who don’t have much to their name), who’ve had knots (baby bumps turned into children), to having knots (big lumpy pockets full of folded up Benjamins)! I told you the wordplay is like on some Gail King/Katy Perry shit…like it’s outta this world…but like actually meaningful not just some demonstrative bs.

Anyways, my nigga keeps preaching later in the first verse rapping “Trust in God and you golden, trust in rap and you empty” There’s a WORD there for everyone! We all have our God given gifts and abilities, but if our trust and priorities are focused in the wrong areas we won’t achieve our desired peace and prosperity.

Now Lightshow puts up some nice bars in the second verse with a buncha different Georgetown basketball references that capture the ear, but in the third verse Wale hops back in and paints a realistic picture of what the youngins went through in the past, were going through at the time, and quite frankly still going through right now. It’s hard to feel hopeful when you have bars that are bleak like “all my youngins put up numbers just like Bubbachuck in kente, when we can’t hit the league we let the streets mislead and dictate” I’m sure we all have that one hometown hero or two that could’ve excelled on the court/field/etc. but got swallowed up by the street life once their playing days ended and they couldn’t make major coin athletically (shoutout to NIL). How can we redirect these athletically gifted young men to be leaders or even contributors of the community while also allowing them to have the chance to make a decent living in our current economic society? Well the answer there is alot deeper than I wanna get into right now and frankly would take input from others alot smarter than me.

~Side note, I’m currently writing this section while listening to Keith Sweat’s “Nobody.” Randomly odd I know, but I figured you’d be interested in knowing that.

Wale polishes off this verse providing hope and dropping knowledge…

“Servin drugs, some of us don’t make it out here, my niggas had some plugs, I gave em a better outlet.”

Shoutout to the ones providing opportunities and leading the homies to other avenues of income that won’t risk time served. At one point in time Turkey Leg Hut would fall in that category but my oh my how things have changed…and I never got to try that alfredo turkey leg neither smh

Last two bars round out the song perfectly, “there’s a difference in words, hustlin and trappin, see hustlers find a way out, while the latter can’t climb up out it” My nigga Folarin said the latter needs a ladder dammit! I’m telling you the wordplay is unfuckwitable, all while providing valuable lessons and what not. Hustlers are gonna find a way to make shit shake no matter what, but won’t leave themselves in a compromised position. While trappers…well it’s pretty self explanatory, most of them end up either dead or incarcerated. Shoutout to the ones that made it out though…may you lead your successors down a better path.

God Knows All…

Alright I just couldn’t leave y’all without sharing one piece of social media that had me cracking up this week! Now the thing about black people is, we gon make fun of somebody! And more than likely if we related, you gon get it twice as bad! And thanks to @ofats2 and TikTok we got first hand insight on niggas favorite pasttime…cappin on other niggas!

I lowkey feel a lil sorry for nephew, because you know unc said that joke in the car and everybody laughed for 5 minutes, and then he said “hold on hold on, y’all hush, I gotta put that one on the TikTok for my fans, they gon get a kick outta this one!” So not only did he have to endure the onslaught once in front of the peeps, he gotta go through it again with the rest of the world because unc decided he wanted to backdoor it on the TikTok. And here I am adding fuel to the fire, but honestly I ain’t apologizing for shit cuz this one got me dying! You can literally see nephew smiling through the pain trying to mask the hurt with laughter. And I would say “he gon cry in the car” but hell he's already in the car and it’s full of other people so he can’t even shed any tears to himself. But it’s alright nephew hold ya head high…and next time wait til the car stops at y’alls destination and before Unc unbuckles his seatbelt, SLAP THE SHIT OUTTA THAT NIGGA NECK AND THEN TAKE OFF! Either that or go cut the straps on his favorite leather sandals…you know the ones he likes to BBQ in, gotta hit him where it hurts you feel me?!

Alright that’s all I got for y’all this week, thank you oh so much for taking the time to kick it with me! Hopefully you enjoyed yourself, but if there’s anything that I want you to remember from your time with me, it’s that JESUS LOVES YOU…even you nephew!
